But last week it was the site of an epic, unique and slightly crazy cycling achievement when Singaporean PE teacher Daryl Chan “Everested” the hill on Pepys Rd to join an exclusive club with less than 500 members around the world.
The rules of “Everesting” are quite simple: ride on a bike in one attempt the equivalent height of the world’s highest peak on a single hill or mountain … that’s a staggering 8,848 metres. Breaks are allowed, indeed the people behind the fairly recent phenomenon of Everesting (the appropriately name Hells 500) actively encourage them, but no sleeping is allowed.
