Colin O’Shea proved the fastest athlete on course at yesterday’s 2017 MetaSprint Series Triathlon, but that wasn’t enough to earn him the title of Champion of Champions, that privilege going to women’s winner Jennifer Zenker.

In a bid to spice up what was already a pretty dynamic MetaSprint Series, organisers MetaSport introduced the Champion of Champions concept last year; it’s essentially a race within a race that gives the elite female racers a head start on their male counterparts, with the handicap based on the results of the previous three years’ editions of the race. The winner is the first to cross the line.

The 2017 TriFactor Series splashed off on Sunday at the East Coast Park with the TriFactor Swim and AquaRun Challenge. The TriFactor team always put on a good show, and Sunday’s event was no exception with well over 500 competitors and what looked like as many supporters flocking to the event site near the Bedok Jetty.
The marquee contest from the many events on the race card was the 2,000-Metre Swim, and coming out of the water fastest to claim the men’s and women’s titles respectively were SEA Games-bound swimmers Erasmus Ang and Chantal Liew.

In the multisport element of the TriFactor Swim event, triathlon superstars Bryce Chong and Christy Suriadi took the top swim-run-swim honours.

The second edition of the 2017 Cycosports Jungle Cross series saw some tweaks to the race organisation but the end result was oh so familiar as Junaidi bin Hashim (Team Awano Treknology) staged another superb performance to bag the Men’s Open MTB title yesterday.

A glorious morning greeted Singapore’s off-road specialists as they made their way to Turf City and the Centaurs Sports Park that is home to Jungle Cross. On arrival they were greeted with a modified set-up, which saw the start/finish line moved to run parallel with the permanent marquees that stand between the playing field section of the course and the Pit, the small but densely wooded ravine that gives Jungle Cross its name.

The small modification didn’t change much for the competitors, but on what was a sweltering morning, it enhanced the experience for the spectators as it gave the big crowd of family and friends a wider view of the action without having to step out of the shelter.
