John van Wyhe and Tim Clarsen were the big winners of the day at Jungle Cross II, taking out the Elite Mountain Bike and Cyclocross Open titles respectively at the Centaurs Sports Park in Singapore’s Turf City.Back for its third iteration after a successful test event late last year and the opening round of this year’s five-date series in January, Jungle Cross II was a true celebration of off-road cycling and demonstrated that the people behind the Cycosports-Centaurs joint venture are committed to growing the series into a “must-attend” event for local dirt lovers.
Jungle Cross takes place on a roughly 2km circuit mostly carved out of The Pit, a shallow, heavily wooded ravine sitting slap bang in the middle of the Turf City sports and lifestyle hub. The series was originally envisioned as a means to bring the cycling discipline of cyclocross (CX) to Singapore, and while CX still plays a prominent role in affairs, the vast majority of participants who take part in Jungle Cross do so in the mountain bike category on the race card. In addition to the Elite race, Jungle Cross II featured separate MTB competitions for Masters, Sports and Ladies, as well as a skills clinic for kids and adult newcomers.
